Help, Social Media has Trapped me and I cannot get Out

Help, Social Media has Trapped me and I cannot get Out

Like Alice in Wonderland, down the rabbit hole I go.

Follow the white rabbit! Down the Rabbit hole!

I must be writing a blog and catching up on some trainings that need to get done. But instead, I am fliting from one social media site to the next one. Responding to posts and liking random posts that don’t even interest me.

Oh yes and I have also signed up for about 5 different challenges that I more than likely won’t do.

Does this sound familiar to you?

Now be honest, is this something that you do?

We all know that being on social media is part of building a business. You need to create posts, give value, and engage with other posts and comments. All the stuff that goes with building a business on social media.

Whether you enjoy social media or not is beside the point. What the point is about social media, is being visible. Being seen by your potential clients so that you can grow your business.

Down Down the Rabbit hole I go....

Down the Rabbit Holeis to stumble into a bizarre and disorienting alternate reality.

Come with me and let's follow the white rabbit...

Let's see what Pinterest has to offer. Look at those pretty shoes, that is a great idea for a bathroom, love that beach hut idea. Ooh I need to try that recipe,

No wait!

Ooh look at those great views oh I love good affirmations and quotes.

Shoes, loves those boots, wonder if my husband can create a garden like that, let’s see if they have ideas for small gardens, oh wait they have garden allotments, need to see if Hubby can create the garden with an allotment...

Hours have passed by and I have still not written the blog. The blog that has been on my to-do list for ages.

Social media has me trapped!

Wait let me see what is happening on Instagram, those vegetables look delicious, nice flower arrangements, look at the pretty cupcakes and different holiday destinations. Love a good sunset.

How do you feel when you go from one social media site to another. essentially going down the social media rabbit hole. Just like I have been doing.

How does it make you feel?

There's a lot of talk about the negative effects that social media has on mental health and wellness. As well how it can impact you as a business owner.

Essentially social media is part of your job of building your business. Therefore, you need to be on social media. You are building your visibility and showcasing your skills and expertise. Interacting and engaging with others.

Depending on the type of business that you are building you could be on anything from one to five or six different social media platforms. That is a lot of input and opinions you are taking in at one time.

The average business owner is on anywhere from one to three different platform.

This has an impact, there is a toll to be paid on your psyche your mindset and your mental health.

Being on social media does not need to be all doom and gloom.

You can be out there promoting your business and being visible to your potential clients. The way to do it by finding a way that suits you. A way that you are comfortable with.

Limiting yourself on how long you are on social media.

Set an alarm so that you know when to come off.

Set a goal.

Before you go onto social media, have a goal in mind for what you want to achieve or be doing.

is it creating a post?

engaging with other posts?

and on which platforms?

Before you log onto social media, check in with yourself and see how you are feeling. Are you feeling:

  • Confident.
  • Positive.
  • Down/low
  • Negative
  • The imposter has you.
  • You are in comparison mode.

When you know how you are feeling, this will help you to understand yourself and how you will be impacted by social media at this time.

At the end of the day, what is your aim for being on social media?

Are you building your presence and growing your audience?

Think about social media as part of your job as a business owner. Part of your marketing plan and one of the tools that you use to grow your business.

Social media is not the demon that is made out to be and as a business owner you are in control of the number of hours you spend on any given platform.

As you browse through social media, are you going down that rabbit hole or are you taking the time and doing the actions to help you build your audience and grow your visibility.

The choice is yours.

Remember to live your life with confidence!
